You have to call to be sure. Online has never worked for me.
I have cancelled many (20?) reward trips to rebook better flights since the sorry CO.com website won't allow me to make changes (shows no availability on any flight any day even when there is plenty). Miles and fees show up quickly when done on-line and 100% of the time without calling. Make sure you hit the refund/redeposit button mid-way down the page, not the cancel button at the top.
