Having tried both I prefer 15K over 17K. Simple reason, the mini forward cabin has fewer seats than the main cabin and is much more quiet and nicer. As the OP is travelling with a companion I'd recommend the D and F seats together in the middle from rows 12-15. Avoid the first and last rows in this forward cabin.
