I've had problems like this with VISA cards even when I warn them in advance I am travelling overseas. Usually I can track it down to a particular transaction type, pay-phones and computer purchases appear to be red flags. Large computer purchases in my home country have also triggered a phone call from them verifying it was a genuine transaction.
