Completely agree. I have a bed at home; I have a bed at my hotel. I don't need a bed on my plane. And I'd rather have the additional capacity for my upgrades. This is such a total non-issue.
So leaving Texas or LA at 7pm facing a 9 or 10 hour flight to Europe you think it's just fine to stay awake all night and feel lousy the next day? I'm sure what you really mean is you can doze well enough in a recliner for a few hours. It might work for you but I'm still a lot less efficient the next day. Unfortunately the industry is moving to "fully flat", whether important or otherwise, so AA is potentially going to struggle with yield.
The crazy part about this is if AA had planned ahead, the capacity sacrifice is relatively small - from memory 32 BA J seats take about the same space AA presently uses for 35. Unfortunately I think it's going to take a LOT of creativity to get the current AA J seat close to that density so I wouldn't expect a change in the near future, unless something else radical happens.
