Completely agree. I have a bed at home; I have a bed at my hotel. I don't need a bed on my plane. And I'd rather have the additional capacity for my upgrades. This is such a total non-issue.

It's a total non-issue for YOU. Fair enough. But on long-haul flights these seats are indeed meant for sleeping. That is how they are marketed by the airlines themselves and that is why businesses supposedly pay the premium for them so that their execs arrive refreshed and ready for work. The fact is that AA will now have an inferior hard product. Yes, it's better for upgraders though.
