IMHO, people who do a lot of long haul transpac or ex-West Coast transatl might think of LAX-ORD as a 'short' flight and take the money, whereas folks who do a lot of shorter flights or mid/transcon and/or dont get on the 744 much could very likely prefer sticking with the seat. So to me, the answer depends not only on just the seat, which I do agree rocks, but also on one's travelling profile.
