Besides, I can't sign a document that states that the original copies no longer exist, because they very well may exist somewhere. I can't vouch for their destruction... I simply misplaced them, if I ever had them in the first place.

But not to get sidetracked... I don't really need an official Quittnung, I just need something I can wave in the face of our auditors in case they ask. In the US that can even mean a handwritten piece of paper. It's refreshing to see the liberal application of common sense throughout the American bureaucratic machine - and I say that as a European. ESPECIALLY as a European I guess.
It's a German tax thing. If for example you book with BA, their checkin machines will happily print you a copy of the receipt everytime you checkin for a segment !
