Yes experienced the shambles at SYD last night (Sunday 27/7) on QF583 to PER on which 2 more pax than seats were checked in and their bags loaded, resulting in 90 mins delay. The captain apologised profusely first for wasting our time in the bag-drop queues and secondly for the oversell-stuff-up. IN a bitter voice he remarked that it had been extraordinarily difficult to get the company to admit (to him) that this new system was the reason for his delay.
Another thing to allow for is the traffic which grinds to a halt whenever it rains, Sunday at 6pm it was a 45 minute journey from Southern Cross Drive to the terminal, almost-stationary on the upstairs departures-access road. Mainly caused by the rapacious airport-operator reducing the road from 2 lanes to 1, narrowing the road by repeatedly diverting the second lane into the car-park. Strangely, traffic to the arrivals below seemed to be moving freely and would be an option if you are in a hurry.
