Actually I think you have things backwards. The machines will be placed in front of the WTMDs, i.e. before them. The passenger will go through the shoe scanning device with shoes on, remove them, then walk through the WTMD. As stated, this is a test and TSA really is trying to improve the checkpoint experience. While nothing they do short of disbanding will make some people happy, TSA is making some sort of effort. I think in a few years the WTMD will be a thing of the past and the checkpoint experience will consist of some combination of Advanced Technology (AT) Xray machines, some type of body scanning machine and possibly these shoe scanning machines.
Forgive me, I misunderstood. The bottleneck will be
before the WTMD with people hopping around in a small are taking their shoes
off.
