Yes, and in September of this year; Boeing plans to fly one of the 773ERs on test runs between SYD and GIG, which should be the final hurdle in such a route.

They're really aiming this plane at QF, but also to some extent [currentA340-operator] LA, and [bankrupt] RG.

Also, Boeing is pushing QF to use the 772LR to eventually launch ORD nonstop to SYD; and possibly even JFK... a route that the A345 cannot realistically duplicate.
