Thanks for the advice! I ended up getting the Chisholm call center and they got it done in a few minutes. No hassle, no fuss! The key seems to be that the agent has to be willing to request a segment unmarry. Once that happened it was pretty easy for them to change the single segment in question.

The call again strategy is sound, and things can often work in your favor. After I posted about an earlier flight I checked availability and both flights seemed to have good availability, but I only checked for the MSP-DTW segment, that married segment logic can be a pain.
