There are two airlines in Europe I would rate above BA in s/h J class.

In OW Finnair when on the Airbus 319 with convertible seats and in Star Austrian. Both get the edge because of better food offerings.

As for comparable Asian routes (1-5 hours) I would rate Dragonair (KA) as the best option. The FAs are somewhat frendlier as their CX brethren and the total experience leaves one rather amazed considering the flight times. Another superb choice is NH on the Japan - China routes.
