Asking the wrong question means the queue is slowed down by people answering "yes" when they should say "no" and having unnecessary discussion about the content of their bags.

I've noticed this as a downside to the new T1, where there is generally a queue of people waiting to get to the queue for the boarding card check so you can get to the queue for the screeners. At least at T3, the liquid queue is made rather wide, so one can just walk around the dozen to multiple dozen people waiting at the liquid queue and answer "no" to the inevitable question or three about liquids. But new T1 really makes this harder, with that chokepoint before the barriers where the moisture warriors make people congregate while they debate the finer points of phase diagrams, viscosity, and what else constitutes a liquid, and if the water bottle they have counts as that.
Edit: It's always humourous to find out how many people have not figured out that liquid queue is optional.
If only getting around the other bottlenecks in the system was that easy.
