There is an upside to the "Do you have any liquids" ethos.

Fans will know that in T2 LHR there is what appears to be a marathon finishing post layout where the Yellow Shirts congegate shortly before the departure secuirty lanes open up. Normally the first few people in the queue are newbies. They wait at the Yellow Shirt reception lines for the staff to arrive to ask them if they have any liquids rather than pass through and queue at the secuirty line. Everyone then joins that queue. It means no early morning panic. You wait until it's about to open up pass them saying as you pass - "no need to wait here - follow me." You take them up to the BP inspection rostrum just before secuirty where it's just about to open and now you are first in the queue.
