Ever since BAA deceided it good to route domestic customers through the shopping area rather than giving them a direct and easy way to their gates the security has become a joke.
The Customer Service people shouting to take out your dangours liquids while hords of customers block the entrance don't make it easy for frequent travelers to even enter the queue towards an equal incompetent person who should direct you to a desk for your picture but has less ability to manage queues than a well trained monkey (I'm sorry monkeys everywhere).
This is followed by quick picture, well sort of , most of the times the person is talking to the person on the next desk and feels you are disturbing them.
This is than followed by yet another queue to get security screened which on most days moves slower than a snale.
Only to walk through the shopping male to yet another security point where they ensure that you are you and have not swapped your boarding pass. Which is case of flights to Ireland is a real joke as BMI requires you to show picture ID when you board.
A wonder that they at that point trust the security screening that was done 10 minutes ago and not do another one.
What we need is dedicated security lanes for registered travelers (hey the goverment know already enough anyhow) so that people who know how to travel don't need to be mixed with people who don't know what 100 ml is.
But than again, that would mean providing service to customers and I don't think that BAA is into that, they are more interested in optimizing your shopping experience.
Look at other airports like Zurich, dedicated business/first check points with people who care. Look at Dusseldorf where you have dedicated areas for frequent travelers (Star Gold etc.).
But than again it could be worse, it could be like in Dublin where the fast track feeds into the same mess like the normal line and the screeners are more interested in each others stories than screening.
