Jana, I agree with you. In my earlier reply I did indicate some examples of when it may be wise to bend the rules depending on the situation at hand. If someone is truly having an emergency like that, please let us know!

TimCLE, the situation with the C lavs on the three-class 767-300 is certainly terrible with the layout in that area of the plane-- especially for long international flights. I think it is the worst configuration we have for enforcing this new rule. The planes we have now weren't designed for our present security needs in ways like you pointed out. Hopefully future aircraft designs will take the requirements of our post-9/11 into consideration.

Imkeww, at one point we were told that UA was planning to get some sort of divider like you describe, ones that would let us maintain visibility throughout the aircraft while trying to discourage passengers from moving between cabins. I can only guess that like so much in our Chapter 11 world, that has been "postponed indefinitely" until we have the money (though it certainly sounds like a low-cost solution).
