Although far from perfect BA are recognised as one of the best and when you are one of the best you attract a lot of unworthy criticism.

Strangely enough after reading your story I also rate Air France very highly despite us missing three EZE connections in a row over several months whilst connecting at CDG. My wife and I had status at the time and they looked after us very well putting us up twice in the executive floor of the CDG Sofitel. The last time they did cock it up a bit as we were left abandoned outside a deserted CDG in the early hours of the morning, and had to find transport to get us to another good hotel as the Sofitel was full.
We were however adequately compensated with an op up the next day as well as several hundred pounds in compensation.

I'm sure even the best airlines in the world have some horror stories from passengers at sometime.
