That's not the ticketing fee -- that's the fuel surcharge. The ticketing fees don't apply to gold and platinum elites. And I believe the fuel surcharges are lower than those for AC, too.

I'm not claiming that all is rosy in NW-land, but on the issue of fees on award travel, NW has treated their elites quite well. Whether that continues once the DL-NW merger takes place is an open question for many people, though.
