The bar cart can certainly help with any delays.

Not in the normal category, sounds like you got too close the the aircraft in front of you on departure

have a look at the link especially the picture on the right, it illustrates what you went through. Thankfully you were on a 'medium' sized jet and were able to ride it out, say you were on a little Cessna 172 or so, and its goodbye.
