We have experienced several gate changes, and have never been notified. On two occasions the GA did not even appear to have been given advanced notification. I just consider the gate assignment as a suggestion, but am prepared to move at any point prior to boarding.

I do not think the logistics of major terminals permit any airline to actually guarantee a specific gate much before time to depart.
