Are you sure you are booked on a UA-operated flight and there are US-operated flights on exact same international segment? I can not think of any route like this. It may be that one of your flights is a codeshare. For example, your UA flight can be actually on LH metal, for example, PHL-FRA, or your US and UA are the same codeshare flights.
