I don't know. I suspect it was because they were overbooked. It happened flying NW last year from Nagoya and this year from and to Tokyo and Manila. I was really surprised. I assume its because I am Skyteam Elite.

Thanks for all the replies. The coupon expires in one year and I make about 5 trips a year on my own dime. I will take the miles with the expection or hope that the merger does take place and my miles are consolidated. It was a good gift for the consoles not working for 1 1/2 hours
