I do pay the fee. However, periodically DL runs "specials". Seems like the last one waived the "transaction" fee so I just paid the per mile part?
My mother has never had enough miles for me to worry about limits (nor have I) and for the OP's 15,000 mile need this might be the most "economical" method. Especially since he seems to be doing a family trip, then maybe "family" members can give up thier miles for the "greater" good LOL!
However, I would be hesitant to do it with a stranger on the theory that DL might just want to know why you "gave" me miles. (i.e., as the original issue of "did you pay for those miles") That's why I suggested OP see if a family member could make a transfer.
