You were flying domestically so you do not have access to RCC lounges, even as a star gold (you must have RCC membership to enter).
Pretty much all U.S. airlines have this policy, although some (Alaska?) give access to full-fare first class passengers.
The U.S. RCCs would be way too crowded, not to mention incurring more losses than they currently are, if they allowed upgraded domestic first class passengers to use the lounges as there are so many of them.
However, I do believe that it couldn't hurt UA to provide RCC access to the few domestic full-fare first class passengers that still exist. After all, the lounges are a major reason why people purchase business class tickets in Europe on extremely short flights such as FRA-ZRH.
