I just flew CZ from shanghai to incheon today. I did not know of the 20kg luggage limit. I really wish I had. Most carriers i know of, especially on international flights, have allowance of 2 bags of 20-30kg each. China Southern allows 2 bags of 20kg combined.

I was 15 kg over the limit because of this. One bag 21 kg, the other 14kg, which would not have been a problem on almost any other carrier I know. 2 of my friends flew out with me that day on other airlines. Their combined luggage weight was greater than mine, and they had no extra charge.

The charge per kg over the limit is 46 RMB. So yeah, I had to pay over 100 USD for 15kg over weight limit on what would have been under the weight limit on any other carrier. I'm still seething about this.

If I have been ripped off (as in, the limit is 20 kg PER BAG or something) please email me and let me know. I'm going to get my money back if this is the case.

Also, it's quite a hassle to even pay the over limit fee. You have to walk all the way to their domestic terminal (this is in the Shanghai airport, I don't know how it operates elsewhere) with a little sheet of paper saying you need to pay the fee. Then you need to wait for them to fill our more paperwork, and God help you if you need to pay with a foreign credit card. Terribly inefficient and not the most knowledgeable about their jobs. Then you have to walk back to the check in desk to get your ticket. Altogether, this process wasted a good 40 minutes of my time.

Again this was in Shanghai airport, other countries may have better service.

Also again, please let me know if this information is not correct and I was cheated or inappropriately fined.
