OAK has fewer flight delays than SFO, which is an advantage for OAK.

To get from OAK to downtown San Francisco, get on the AirBART bus which takes you to the Coliseum BART station. From there, take BART to the downtown San Francisco stop you want. See http://www.bart.gov for schedules and fares for both the AirBART bus and BART.

BART goes into SFO (no bus or other shuttle needed), but takes a rather long route with many stops, so going to downtown San Francisco from SFO is not actually much faster than the AirBART bus + BART from OAK.
