There are a few of the condos in our complex for rent now- Ranging for $1500 for a one bedroom to $2200 for a two - there even might be a few 3 bedroom available. Across the street is the new Westin Alexandria. Two new restaurants have just opened up and I think 3 more are planned.
When you say the area empties out at night and on weekends, do you still get a neighborhood type feel or is it like being in downtown DC on the weekends, just kind of dead?

BTW $2200 for a two-bedroom is pretty good compared to what we've been seeing in the city (Cleveland Park, Dupont, Gallery Place, etc.).

Any particular buildings you'd recommend?
