I am a lowly silver elite. I am traveling on a separately booked itinerary, but on the same flights, as my S/O. The flight is booked solid.

I was recently notified that I received a complimentary upgrade to first class. Is it ok for me to ask whoever is sitting next to my S/O if they would like to trade seats with me? This would move the individual from a normal economy seat up to first class, and then I could sit back in row 13 with my S/O. I'd imagine most people would jump at the offer, but I'm just curious if it's ok for me to do this.
