OTOH, if you decide to bite the bullet and go with Amtrak, check out the discount codes at the top of the FT Amtrak forum. There is a 20%-off code currently available for travel to and from Boston, with a three-day advance purchase required. (The code does not work online; only through the Amtrak telephone reservation service.) And remember, with Amtrak, you are entitled to free, en route stopovers of less than 24 hours. So, if you were so inclined, you could stop over in New Haven, or New London, or Mystic, or Providence, for a couple of hours or overnight.
