My lady friend just flew UA SAN-SFO and made the mistake of taking her eyes off her carry on and some TSA agent stole her vicodin and Ativan. I told her to stay with it but apparently the guy in front of her kept setting off the detector and they held up the line after she put her bag on. Didn't realize the meds were missing until airborne.

Agree. May be costly for overnight but safer for the most part. I used to drive for DHL in SAN and many of the businesses on my route used to ship luggage ahead of a trip.
