Sure enough, last night the price drops (about $41). But even though the itinerary is identical you can no longer refare to the lower fare (through united.com or through Reservations). Basically the e-fares can only be accessed by booking through the e-fares link on united.com. In fact, regular bookings on united.com won't pull up the e-fare - you have to go through the e-fare link.
This means that other booking systems like Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity etc can't see the lower fare either.
It's kind of a "too bad" thing. But FWIW there is no way to use a voucher for a ticket booked through the e-fare link anyway (and had I not ticketed it last Friday the price would have actually gone up another $43).
I haven't bought an e-fare in ages - is this something that's old news? Seems kind of silly not to advertise your lowest fare. Also muddys the waters for applying the "lowest fare guarantee on united.com" no?
Guarantee lowest fare on united.com is guarantee that united.com will be cheaper than any website when you book your ticket. Refare to lower fare is different case.
Sorry, but I agree that e-fare shouldn't be refarable, just make more business sense for United. Since e-fare is suppose to fill out all the last minute spaces, it's not intended for existing customer to get cheaper fare and let airline lose money.
