I am thoroughly confused. 1) There is nothing here about ticket prices. 2) You wrote that the passenger was originally ticketed IND-IAD-SAN, but then you wrote "We do what we can but an award ticket booked on availability IND-IAD-LAX-LAS was YOUR own problem to begin with. Why pretend it's all United's fault when nature steps up to the plate?"</font>
Sorry for the confusion! I was answering an e-mail re: a LAS trip for someone (hence typing LAS insteadof SAN) and also on the phone with our station's training coordinator asking him for info. for someone else. I negleced to proofread or edit before sending.

What I meant to point out was the fact that an award fare limits all re-routing to UA/UAX only. When your ticket has a cash value, we are able to re-route on other carriers.
The customers in this scenario booked award tickets: IND-IAD-SAN and then drove to Carslbad, scheduled to depart at 230pm EST. Weather delayed their dept. by an hour.
Somehow, it was my fault that they would arrive 50 mins. late to SAN, according to the customer.
They almost didn't get to go to SAN at all.
