Perspective on ticket prices
Yesterday, I showed up for work and walked into a situation that was not within my control.
The 2:30 pm IND-IAD flight was delayed enough to coincide at dept. with the 3:30pm dept. at 3:25pm. We also had an oversold IND-ORD dept. at 3:45. All flights til 645pm are oversold.
Since I start at 2pm and still needed to clear security like everyone else, I got to the gate at 220pm. The cheese stands alone. It was ME to handle all these former stand-bys on 7197 (330pm dept) and the rough connects from 7195 (the former 230pm dept- now an hr. late) I managed to rearrange psgrs by gate arrival/dept. between the two flights. (Both would be departing IND within 5 mins of the other).
One woman approached me with award tickets to SAN. Ticketed IND-IAD-SAN and then driving to Carlsbad. Flying home next week from Carlsbad via DEN and ORD. However, she asked me to change her ticket since we were delayed (weather in ORD delayed the flight). She wanted me to find her a flight into Carlsbad. From IND or ORD...
What I found was rare availability in XY IND-IAD-LAX-SAN for two people. I realize I added a flight, but there wasn't anything else available to SAN the rest of the weekend. It caused a delay of 50 mins.- even with the added segment- but they got there.
How many flights and airlines service the Carlsbad airport? (BTW- not ticketed TO Carlsbad. Only home from Carlsbad. Anyone have the toll-free # for Bob's Air Service?!)
We do what we can but an award ticket booked on availability IND-IAD-LAX-LAS was YOUR own problem to begin with. Why pretend it's all United's fault when nature steps up to the plate?
