paypal doesn't use bank wire info(SWIFT, etc), you just supply the recipient's email id and how much $$ to send.
I've never seen a way for a U.S. account to send anything other than US$, so you might contact your recipient and ask if you can send the equivalent dollar/pound amount.
Get a current conversion quote, then send 'em some paypal $$.
If they won't accept $$ and you decide to wire some $$, shop around a bit to find a bank with a lower -international- wire fee. Unlike domestic wire fees, there can be quite a range for the international stuff.
