Why so many flights from JFK?
Just curious about the fascination with JFK. I'd argue that it's not so great for international flights because of its lack of feed. For anybody not in NYC, JFK is so inconvenient to make a connection at. I realize that NYC is by far the biggest market in the US, but then why not EWR. It has connections to most of the country and still serves the NYC market. Plus it is arguably better for manhattan than JFK. In addition the suburban population in Jersey outnumbers that of Long Island. I'd say that Westchester is a tie and rockland is EWR territory.
While its bad for domestic carriers at least they offer alternate flights for connecting pax through their hubs. But how about intl carriers especially those with limited hubs. Air India and Kuwait come to mind. How am I going to fly these guys even if I wanted to, as JFK is so difficult to get a flight to and tranferring from LGA is ridiculous. Maybe thats why they started serving ORD.
I realize that I am no expert but I do seem to notice that whenver I'm looking for an award or a cheap seat, it's invariably available on the JFK flight. I've also heard that the JFK loads to South America and especially Asia are generally lower. Anybody else think that perhaps intl executives don't have a great grasp on the makeup and bridge/tunnel structure of the NYC metro area.
