My Skymiles account name was setup back in the 1980's using my first initial and middle / last names (I go by my middle name). Recently since 9/11, more and more the travel agents want to use my complete first name on my tickets instead of just first initial. This seems to cause some issues with the Delta system. When I see "my itineraries", they show up, but when I actually click on the itinerary, it says there aren't any! (I have to then type my full name and confirmation number, and then the system can find it). I've always gotten mileage credit, but then again I always show the agent my Skymiles card and ask them double-check that my FF number is entered. On the other hand, when my ticket has my first initial only, I've never had any problems even on international flights or going through customs.
Is this something I should try to correct? I didn't see an option to update your name in the Edit Profile page on Delta's website. Is it even possible to change the name on your account?
Send SkyMiles the relevant information (by mail is probably better but fax has been known to work too with a letter and copies of photo ID showing name in full) to update your name to reflect more than those initials -- they'll usually process the change.
