More experienced *A folk may advise otherwise (via NZ), but just as an idea, could you arrange a Qantas flight to PER on your AA miles?
This way, you might be able to incorporate stops on the way there and back, possibly through DRW and ASP so you can visit Kakadu National Park and Uluru. From there maybe SYD for a few days, then up to CNS and/or HTI. Possibly in November.
To get thre from SYD, perhaps get a CHC flight for some NZ tramping, then follow the kiwis to OOL or BNE, to resume a bit of Aussie travel before flying home from BNE.
A straight flight to SYD might be a lot less miles than PER, I don't know, but it's worth checking.
An alternative is to get to PER on NZ as they fly back PER-AKL, which would be nice.
