Air Canada can continue to sell economy seats at various fares levels, even if the plane is completely sold out - to take account of the "no show" factor, AC may be trying to oversell the flight, so that the flight actually is (not less than) full at the time of departure.

However, I would indeed agree with you to check with the AC SE telephone agent, first. The web site could be wrong in showing the absence of J award seats for a SE.
