It all comes down to what "standard" is. IMHO a standard room is the most common room type of a property. Basic rooms might be below standard, deluxe above standard but the most common room type is a standard room for me.
So I agree with sc flier that the element way of naming things is very misleading. I would actually even go one step further than this: If the most common room type in a property is an over water bungalow, then this is the standard room for this property. And if the most common room type is a 2BR suite, then this is a standard room for this property as well.

And yes I know, Starwood has a very different opinion about this than I do.
