However, in my experience, no one ever picks up or it goes to answerphone saying that there is no one available.
Did you ask reservations to link your bookings together?

I suggest you try and rever to Reservations and ask them to help you. Maybe they can put a note in both your PNRs (bookings) for you.
They were *some* help, but it did mainly boil down to 'You'll have to sort it out at the airport'. I've always taken great pride in arriving as close to departure as possible, as I'm not big on standing in long lines, also I'm quite keen to try to get the seats done now rather than at the airport by which time other pax might be in our preferred row 31abc/hjk seats. When we flew in January (not on SQ) we got to the airport early to resolve a bassinet issue but it was a waste of time, it really is best to get things done in advance.
