Since Gold upgrade is also excluded, I guess that means no elite upgrade whatsoever. That really

In other words, is the phrase "except at Aloft and Element properties" refering to the entire sentence or just to the last 4 words?

If an elite checks into an element hotel, do they have an SPG right to expect a room (within their booked room type) that isn't next to the elevator on the bottom floor with a view of a parking lot?

If they book a Studio Suite, do they have a right to expect the best Studio Suite? If they book a 1BR Suite, do they have a right to expect the best 1BR Suite?
