Great Flight and New Meal Order-Taking Protocol
I had perhaps one of the best crews I'd ever experienced on a recent ORD-LAS flight last week. My brother and I were in F on the 757. They more than kept our drinks filled the entire flight...Pre-flight beers, more follwed after takeoff, wine filled every 2-3 minutes during the meal, and the Bailey's and Coffee was refilled twice without asking. Needless to say, we were feeling quite good by the time we stepped off of the aircraft. One of the FA's from coach even kept coming up to us making sure that everything was good, and he was one of the funniest, most personable FA's I'd ever experienced...We chatted frequently about everything, and he even joked around by asking my brother for a $20. He gave it to the FA and the FA said, "You're better off giving this to me than to the tables...Cut your gambling losses by giving it to me, besides, I've got kids to put through college"...And he disappeared back into coach. About 4 minutes later, a different FA came up to us and said, "Hey, I hear you're giving out $20 bills here!" It was all in good fun, and my brother was returned his $20 as we were deplaning.
But the previously-unseen meal taking procedure was what struck me as odd, however informative and what I deem proper...
As we were taxiing, the purser (different guy than the $20 taker) stood in the aisle, and without the microphone said, "Hi folks, today we have 24 of you in F, and we have 24 meals, 12 of a fajita salad (which he held up and showed everyone), and 12 deli plates (also holding it up and showing us). Now we've got a significant number of 1K's, Premier Execs and Premiers on this flight...Right now, I'm going to bounce around the cabin here in status order and take your order."
He did so, and as a Premier Exec I was surprised to be the third person asked (he also took my bro's order at that point, who has no status). I really didn't care which meal I got, and my brother and I both said whatever he had left would be fine. He graciously thanked us and continued his bounce around the cabin.
All in all, another great UA experience, and I really liked the way the did the meals...And the over-portioned deli plate was pretty darn good.
