If people can just say "yes" and be through it only punishes honest people who say "no" and then I guess have to show papers.
I used to run into a checkpoint near Tucson occasionally. They would ask if I was "a citizen" and I would always nod my head without actually saying "yes" (Of course I was a citizen, just not a US citizen). Sometimes they would ask for ID and a DL seemed to do the trick, but then again, I would be in a suit and driving a nice new rental car. These checkpoints are stupid in my opinion and should be scrapped because all they do is waste tax payers money and irritate those they should be serving on all fours.
