Broadway Junction subway station safe?
My college-age sister will need to get from JFK to a friend's apartment in Williamsburg.
The most direct route appears to be Airtrain to Howard Beach, A train to Broadway Junction, L train to Williamsburg. She'll be doing this in the evening (probably around 10pm, maybe a little later) after an international flight.
Is anybody familiar with Broadway Junction? I understand the area around the station (East New York) is not the nicest neighborhood, but is the subway station itself unsafe? I would assume that it's busy most of the time, since it's a major transfer point between three lines (L, J and A), multiple buses and the LIRR. But I've never been there (except passing through on the A or LIRR). How would it compare with the Sutphin Ave station in Jamaica (another big transfer point in a bad neighborhood where I'd have no qualms sending her)?
My inclination is to send her that way, since the alternatives would mostly require backtracking from Manhattan, but if Broadway Junction is known to be a super-dangerous place I might reconsider.
