Denied Boarding: No denied boarding compensation permitted for the free companion.

This may be the first time that UA has sought to limit its liability on the terms of a ticket for denied boarding compensation. For involuntary d b ("IDB") which depends on value of a ticket, this may be the equivalent of saying the ticket has no cash value.
But the terms are ambiguous on the issue of VDB - voluntary denied boarding. Federal rules require airlines to first seek volunteers willing to give up their seat for a payment of the airline's choice, before resorting to IDB. No term on a ticket would seem to affect this federal rule. Does this term mean UA is not obligated to offer VDB comp to a volunteer companion on one of these certs who has given up her seat in accepting UA's VDB offer?????
