Depends, I like the flight $$$ more than anything else but half of it is where I'm at.

I took a bump on UA SFO-DEN... I went to HS in a SFO suburb and called up one of my friends who doesn't do anything these days to kick it with for the 10 hours until my re-scheduled red-eye took off.

Yes, they need to be clear.

You can still get upgraded but bear in mind that sometimes FC may be full on your next confirmed flight. This can be mentioned and used to your benefit if you want F + the VDB comp. Not sure if they have any wiggle room on the waitlist to put you at the top, for instance.
