It depends on the scenarios (class of service, length of travel, route, leisure vs. business), but generally I prefer an overnight flight with an early morning arrival. I don't like the sensation of "time waste" on a daytime flight.

I used to always take the midnight MEL-SIN and evening SIN-MEL departures; but with my trips between AKL and SIN I tend to take the overnight ex-SIN and the early afternoon ex-AKL (fly down Friday night, back Sunday afternoon) as I roll leisure+business travel into one.

The trips I used to hate the most were WLG-AKL-LAX-YYZ-YOW, where I'd leave WLG at ~5pm on Friday or Saturday, and arrive in YOW at midnight on Friday or Saturday, with an elapsed travel time of ~30 hours. That wasn't much fun.
