Admittedly points are earned at a different rate on both these airlines, so that'll need to be taken into consideration. Taking into account the number of domestic flights one would need to take (and $$ spent) to earn all those points before spending them.

If you do a lot of short flying, and take advantage of the 1000 minimum points Qantas have, you would certainly be in front of DJ, notwithstadning to the lower redemption rate. E.G CBR-SYD is quite the point generator on QF

Of course, one would need to look at the overall earn/burn/product equation for your particular flying pattern to work it out.
