Worker Dies After Fall From IHG Site

On Thursday, a construction worker accidentally fell 53 stories to his death from the Wilshire Grand high-rise in downtown Los Angeles, allegedly landing on a car containing one passenger driving down Wilshire Boulevard. The unidentified man had been working on the tower’s unfinished 53rd floor, which had no windows, and the standard safety hardness required for workers at the site was not found on the victim’s body. The driver of the car the man landed on is “not injured,” according to LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. “She is scared.”

Korean Air is the owner of the Wilshire Grand project, a new 73-story tower with office space and a hotel operated by InterContinental Hotels Group, for which construction is to be completed next year, probably in the spring.
