United Shoots Down JetBlue Request for Information in Air Canada Venture

Frankfurt, Germany - September 17, 2014: An Air Canada Boeing 777 taking off from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). Air Canada is the Canadian flag carrier and largest airline with some 172 planes.

In response to a request for transparency from jetBlue Airways in its business dealings with Air Canada, United Airlines claimed that the carrier’s letter to the Department of Transportation regarding concerns about antitrust immunity was “speculative, misleading and meritless.”

This does not mean that United has no plans for joint ventures with Air Canada; United simply has no plans to make information about it either way public.

I’m confused about why JetBlue even would want this information - they don’t even fly to Canada. All I can think is that they want to use this to extract more information which they could use if they eventually want to evaluate flights to Canada. Given the anti-trust immunity is still valid, not sure why any JV info needs to be shared publicly by 2 private carriers. Why do they think they should get inside info. on this JV, and not on any other ones, like the Star Alliance or OneWorld TATL JV, Star Allince TPAc JV, etc.
